“When We All Vote”: Remember when Michelle Obama told black voters to vote Democrat

Recently advertisements for Michelle Obama’s campaign “When We All Vote” have been popping up all over the web. In the ad, Obama and a few big name celebrities speak to each other about registering to vote. While the campaign appears neutral and in good fun, remember that Michelle Obama has made her voting mission clear in the past.

In 2014, Obama was interviewed on NewsOne Now, a TV channel with a predominantly black audience. In the interview she discussed voting, and said it does not matter who is on the ballot, the Democratic ticket is what people should be voting on.

“That’s my message to voters. This isn’t about Barack. It’s not about the person on the ballot — it’s about you. And for most of the people that we’re talking to, a Democratic ticket is the clear ticket that we should be voting on, regardless of who said what or did this. That shouldn’t even come into the equation.” – Michelle Obama

Many viewers noted they were disappointed in Obama telling viewers who to vote for and to essentially not even research the candidates running or to be aware of their past. One viewer even made a video discussing how Michelle Obama’s message impacted her and noted that she is not voting Democrat.

Further, take note that the celebrity names (Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Janelle Monáe, Chris Paul, Faith Hill, and Tim McGraw) included in Obama’s voting campaign were all Hillary Clinton supporters. I particularly note actor Tom Hanks being included in the campaign, which I have reported in the past was the executive director of a CNN TV series that portrayed notorious anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan, leader of Nation of Islam, in a positive light.

The more research you do on big name Democrats, the more you can see through everything they do no matter how much they try to mask it with smiles and kind words. By all means be sure to vote, but be aware of the background of massive “non-partisan” voting campaigns like “When We All Vote.”
